KIM Siyeon (b. 1971, Korea)
Kim Siyeon has developed her distinctive artistic language through numerous mediums such as sculpture and photography. Her artistic process shows a poetic approach to ephemeral environments and objects of the everyday. The combination of the familiar and unfamiliar in her works offers us both a space of recognition and hidden purpose, much as a poem does. Her work has been compared to American visual artist Ann Hamilton.
Kim Siyeon received her BFA and MFA in Sculpture from Ewha Women’s University and her second MFA in Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts in New York. She has had solo exhibitions at DOOSAN Gallery (New York), 16 Bungee (Seoul), Foil Gallery (Tokyo), and Gallery EM (Seoul). She has also exhibited at a variety of museums and gallery group shows, including Seoul Museum of Art, The Annex Gallery (Kuala Lumpur), PS122 Gallery (New York), Seoul Olympic Museum of Art, National Museum of Contemporary Art (Gwacheon, Korea), and Queens Museum of Art (Queens), amongst others. She received the first Doosan Yonkang Artist Award in 2010 and was invited to renowned artist-residency programs in New York and Tokyo.
