Doyeon Gwon is a photographer whose work functions in a similar way to poetry. His photographs display objects, languages and allude to various senses only in order to make them appear hollow. We cannot simply assume that the texts Gwon photographs are representative of language. Thus, the artist asks us not to provide instant meaning to what we see. For him, they are all empty. Gwon’s photographs are a world of shadow objects that have leaped from another world into our current media. As art critic Youngjin Lee calls it, they are a “shadow show”.

Doyeon Gwon was born in Korea. In 2007, he received his BA in German Language and Literature from Hanyang University. In 2009, he attended Sangmyeong University to study photography. He has held solo shows around Seoul since 2011, and has featured works in international and local group exhibitions since 2011. Notable galleries and museums include Photo London, Photo Espana (Madrid), NRG Center (Texas, USA), KT&G Sangsangmadang (Seoul), and the Seoul Museum of Art.
