Ina JANG (b.1982, Korea)
Radiator Theatre Series
Ina JANG (b.1982, Korea) is a multimedia artist who plays with colors, shapes and shades. Her display works are emotive in that they provide a bridge by which the artist can communicate through the three languages she speaks fluently.
In her recent series Radiator Theatre, Jang paints small three-dimensional sets and shapes them into an environment, which she later photographs. These works display abstract forms narrated in a visual language that is personal to the artist’s process and experience. The ‘characters’ of these sets symbolically express wordplay, rhymes, lies, and exaggerations through their lyrical shapes and soothing colors. In this sense, Jang’s works are poetic and minimal, recalling the words that we speak and visualize in our everyday lives.
Ina Jang graduated with a BFA in Photography in 2010 and completed her studies in the MPS Fashion Photography Program in 2012 from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her works have been shown in internationally acclaimed galleries and festivals, including the New York Photo Festival, Daegu Photo Biennale, Paris Photo, Tokyo Photo, Unseen and Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam. Her works have been published in Time Magazine, British Journal of Photography, IMA Magazine, The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine. Ina currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
