Dongwan Kook creates works that display settings and ideas that reflect our unconscious minds. Her work taps into the dreams that we are able to remember, and are inspired by the ones that we may have forgotten. By making her private dreams public through her art, we are forced to consider our own subconscious reflections. Kook’s artwork combines texts, images and something in between through a variety of mediums.

Dongwan Kook was born in Korea in 1979. She obtained her BFA in Graphic Design from Seoul National University. In 2008, she got her MA in Book Arts from the University of Arts London. She has held solo exhibitions since 2011 around Seoul. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions since 2007 in galleries and museums such as 9 Avenue Hoche (Paris), Museo Carlo Bilotti (Rome), Glenfiddich Distillery (Dufftown, Scotland), David Roberts Art Foundation (London), Camberwell College of Arts (London), The Gallery (Northampton, UK), Daniel Shand Gallery (London), and most recently at Gallery SU: (Seoul). The artist currently lives and works in Seoul. Her work A Ferry, 2016 was recently collected by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea.
