with works by JEONG Yiji
Many different memories are presented in the show titled ‘Short Cut’ as JEONG Yiji depicts the moments she wants to capture permanently. It is her personal drama or movie scene with people around. JEONG said she is not a good photographer but a good editor when she modifies objects or characters from the original photos into unrealistic shadow, flat background, or exaggerated night sky. She sketches preliminary drawings before working with oil paints on canvas and this process grants some mood or impressions the artist remembers. The memory may not be important, rather careless or petty. There are young women often in the scenes provably her neighbors and friends. JEONG wants to tell that the situation is beauty, not the youth itself.
JEONG Yiji was born in 1994 in Seoul and graduated Korea National University of Art in Korea majored in Art Theory. Her works have been included in group shows including at Sahmyook Building, at Art and Space, and at Haenghwatang.
