with works by LEE Seung-Hyun @SPACE SO
LEE Seung-Hyun works on strange figure drawings by free association without any plan. The delicate forms would remind of some organism, mysterious monster, or virus proliferating inside the host. LEE’s unique living things were previously from old masters paintings or Chinese chessboard. In this new series, the figures were produced in familiar backgrounds - street, shopping center and pool. But these daily life scenes are amalgamated by the living things deconstructing the buildings and mixing the people with the things. This reconnection gives the scene flexibility so that the world is always floating in the space.
Sometime we would feel awkward about daily scenes because we live in a world of stability and instability; order and disorder with a state of conscious and unconscious mind. The figures she creates are, thus, beyond the world we cannot see, the other side of the world.
