Special, Specific Object
With works by JEONG Zik-seong
Donald Judd's "Special Objects," which break the boundaries between sculpture and painting, is presented as the title of his show "Special, Special Objects," (adding his unique “Special” mother-of-pearl beyond the boundaries of painting and craft.) The materiality of mother-of-pearl pops out of a flat surface into light and makes up an image that refers to something but does not dictate any. It endures many times of craftsmanship and facilitates another layer of speciality.
Jeong Zik-Seong is deeply enchanted by the light and the original abstraction of mother-of-pearl. He has pursued painting beyond the boundaries of reproduction and abstraction and now he struggles to portray a surface image that can maximize the abstractness of the mother-of-pearl beyond the boundaries of visual art and craft.
