Kyungsun CHOI creates dynamic paintings that transport the viewer into an ephemeral realm by intentionally confusing the space and perceived stability of the dream-scape setting. It is in this mythical land that aspects of the “real world” reverberate off of irresolute surroundings. As is archetypal of Choi’s works, the face of his protagonist is turned away or obscured, with a sumptuous combination of impossible colors denoting a super-natural, other worldly realm.
Choi Kyungsun graduated with his BFA from Hongik University College of Fine Arts in 1995 and with his MFA in 2000. The artist has had top solo and group exhibitions at the Art Gallery Side (Beijing) The T Art Center (Beijing) and the Dukwon Gallery (Seoul). Choi has been included in multiple group exhibitions throughout South Korea and Asia, including: “2011 CIG Beijing International Art Fair” (2010), “Now Asian Artist Busan Biennale” (2009), “Youth Festival 2009 Song Zhuang” at the Shang Poh Museum of Art (Beijing)and “2009 798 Art Biennial” (Beijing),among many others.
