Sangik SEO is a painter whose work blends reality and fantasy. His master painter figure paintings have the projected artists sink into their own dreams and psychologies, with their actual pieces acting as the backdrop for their portrait. Are Seo’s works paying homage to the great masters, or are they more cynical? Seo follows their footsteps in an attempt to answer the age-old question… What is art? With various representations of masters, artistic movements and painting styles, Seo becomes a protagonist in unique form of art history.

Sangsik Seo was born in Korea in 1977. In 2005 and 2008, respectively, he obtained his BFA and MFA in Painting from Seoul National University. Seo has held solo exhibitions since 2008 around East Asia in galleries and museums such as Zaha Museum (Seoul), Yoon Arte (Shanghai), Gallery Kiche (Seoul), and Gallery Sun Contemporary (Seoul). His work has been featured in over 50 group exhibitions since 2005 at renowned galleries and museums such as Lincoln Center (New York), Hakgojae Gallery (Seoul), Ilwoo Art Space (Seoul), Gangdong Art Center (Seoul), Total Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul), Lotte Gallery (Seoul), and Woljeon Museum of Art Icheon (Icheon, Korea).
