Hejum Bä
(b. 1987, Korea)
Hejum Bä creates abstract paintings that have the ability to capture our attention from any distance. Most of Bä’s paintings are the result of her personal contemplations, which she then provides with material and color. For the artist, the finished piece is an outcome produced from a long chain of thoughts.

Hejum Bä attempts to transfer motion onto a flat surface through a combination of color and brushstrokes. The artist's bold works integrate movement, weight and intensity rather than a particular subject. She draws inspiration from various iconography such as origami, sliced fruit, and fields of grass, amongst other objects. These subjects are then made abstract, becoming fundamentally still while also appearing to move against their shades and texture.

Hejum Bä was born in Korea in 1987. In 2010, she received her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Ewha Womans University in Seoul. She also obtained a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (Stuttgart, Germany) in 2015. Bä has held four solo exhibitions around Seoul and New York since 2011. Since 2013, her work has been featured in international group exhibitions in Seoul, New York and Germany including the Queens Museum (New York), Galerie Modul 8 (Dresden, Germany), and Calwer Passage (Stuttgart, Germany).Hejum Bä lives and works in Seoul.
