Openness - Nowness @Gallery SU:

with works by Ce Jian, Qin Jun, Xie Fan, Nayul KIM, Dongwan KOOK

Openness - Nowness is an exhibition that allows viewers to make new observations about contemporary art through a unique array of works. By introducing new, young artists, Gallery SU: aims to continue the mission it has been pursuing since its foundation in 2016. The show features three Chinese artists and two Korean artists born around1980. This exhibition is partners with Baudoin Lebon, whose current exhibition ‘Street Life’ is an experimental narrative that deals with the hardships of young people in the USA.

.

Having already displayed her work in numerous exhibitions around Korea, Ce Jian disassembles and reorganizes contemporary social themes through her art, freely traversing her ideas in time and space.

.

Focussing on geometric forms such as squares, circles and triangles, Qin Jun expresses the logic that current painting methods fail to interact with a broader plane of consciousness.

.

Xie Fan paints on semi-transparent silk, creating a new artistic surface that blends together light, silk, oil and frames in an attempt to overcome the universal appeal for flat painting.

.

Inspired by visual experiences and the imagination, Nayul Kim overlaps abstract shapes and digital images to produce visually complex paintings and display an invisible world. Kim’s artwork has previously been auctioned at Christie’s Hong Kong.

.

Dongwan Kook introduced a new series of paintings in October 2018 through the solo exhibition “900x Magnification” at Gallery SU:. These works display settings and ideas that reflect our unconscious minds.
