Kang Collection and its Asian artist including Jongsook KIM are featured by The New York Times for Asia Week NY.
EVE M. KAHN from The New York Times picked up several things you don’t want to miss during 2017 Asia Week New York in Manhattan, NY. Especially, Jongsook KIM’s <Golden Picture, 2014> at KANG COLLECTION is introduced as a work with “glitter and lightheartedness and unexpected juxtapositions of materials”. The Artificial Landscape Series is the artist’s Swarovski crystal paintings which KIM has been doing for a decade, archivally hand-applying thousands or millions of crystals one by one to depict beautiful Korean traditional landscapes.
Jongsook KIM’s Artificial Landscape Series was recognized earlier by Artnet Auction Specialists and have been collected by US and Europe collectors for years. Her works are often perceived with acclaimed Contemporary Western artists, famous for their similar use of crystal and crushed glass in their works, namely Andy Warhol and Russell Young’s “Diamond Dust” paintings and prints, the diamond encrusted skulls of British artist Damien Hirst, the crystal embellished paintings of African American artist Mickalene Thomas and the poured diamond photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and other famous Hollywood starlets by Brazilian photographer Vik Muniz.
Asia Week New York is a collaboration of top-tier Asian art specialists, major auction houses, and world-renowned museums and Asian cultural institutions in the metropolitan New York area since 2009. In March of every year, it draws collectors and curators from every corner of the United States and an international clientele from across the globe. The annual event fulfills the broader aim of affirming the importance of Asian art in the citywide—and nationwide—cultural scene.
Specializing in Korean art and antiquities, Kang Collection has served a community of museums, discerning private collectors, and Asian art scholars since 1981. Under the leadership of Keum Ja Kang, the gallery offers expertise, advice, appraisal services, and rare access to one of the finest, most comprehensive collections of Korean art in North America. MARKT is proudly its liaison to reach the artist Jongsook KIM for the exhibition.
